The Department of Justice and Equality recently announced that a temporary electronic application process for those applying to change their immigration permission is now available.

The measure has been introduced as part of the Department’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Applicants who qualify to apply to change their immigration permission may do so by emailing all required documents to burghquayregoffice@justice.ie.

The following changes may be applied for in this way.

Current Stamp Applied for Stamp Notes
Stamp 1 Stamp 4 After the required period working under an Employment Permit.
Stamp 2 Stamp 1A To work under a Trainee Accountant Contract
Stamp 1G, 2 or 3 Stamp 1 Where an Employment Permit has been secured for the applicant
Stamp 1, 2 or 3 Stamp 1G Where the applicant is the Spouse of Critical Skill Employment Permit holder
Stamp 1, 2 or 3 Stamp 4 Where the applicant is the Spouse of an Irish National

All of the relevant conditions must still be met for an application to be successful.

The facility is currently available until 20 May 2020 in line with the announced closure of the GNIB’s appointment service. However, it seems likely that this will be extended although there has been no announcement as of yet.
For applicants who simply need to renew their immigration permission, the Department has been operating an automatic renewal of two months for permissions which were to expire between 20 March and 20 May 2020. As of 13 May this has now been extended to 20 July 2020.
