Addleshaw Goddard has advised the shareholders of REN Skincare in relation to Unilever's agreement to acquire the iconic natural cosmetics brand. The acquisition is expected to complete in May following usual regulatory clearances.
Created in 2000 by Antony Buck and Robert Calcraft, REN pioneered a new type of high performance skin care. The multi-award winning brand is today sold in 50 countries and has built a committed consumer base. The range is sold predominantly in specialty stores and pharmacies.
The AG team who advised the shareholders was led by Corporate Partner Paul Medlicott and included Tina Wong, Katie Simpson, Daniel Linton, Javeta McDonald, Cat Concannon, Justine Delroy, Clare Walker, Phil McDonnell and Victoria Davies.
Paul Medlicott, Partner stated: "We are proud to have advised the shareholders of REN on its acquisition. An entrepreneurial team who founded the business have agreed to sell to a global major in order to support the next stage of the brand's development. In advising the shareholders, we have been able to add value for our clients and draw on the wealth of experience that Addleshaw Goddard has in the retail and consumer sector - regularly advising household brands on all aspects of their legal requirements, from strategic acquisitions to loyalty programmes, and from brand management to store portfolio reviews."
Antony Buck, founder of REN Skincare stated: "We were delighted to work with AG on our sale to Unilever. As usual the process threw up some unexpected twists and turns but the team at AG were there to calmly help us plot the best way forwards and always offered pragmatic and expert guidance."
