Addleshaw Goddard's Africa Future Leaders programme has won the 'Best Service Quality Innovation' award at this year's Business Leadership Awards 2016, hosted by 'The Lawyer' magazine.

Designed to help prepare the GCs of tomorrow, the programme provides GCs from key multinationals with the tools they need to lead a legal team in the world's fastest growing economy.

The Business Leadership Awards, now in their second year, are designed to recognise and celebrate excellence among business services professionals and teams working in law firms. The judges recognised the unique qualities of the programme, citing its achievement in opening doors for GCs in Africa.

The Africa business group took various tailored modules from its award winning UK Future Leaders programme to create a groundbreaking local programme that is currently run in Nigeria, Tanzania, and Dubai, and easily tailored to any market. The unique programme directly responds to local market challenges and provides a truly innovative way to teach and engage. Delegates develop wider leadership capabilities, and are equipped with new tools, frameworks and ideas to improve their skills as in-house lawyers.

Andrew Rosling, Corporate Finance Partner, said: "This is a truly groundbreaking initiative for markets where the role of in-house lawyers is evolving very fast. It is extremely rare to get this calibre of in-house lawyers together in one place and it presented an invaluable opportunity for all involved: it gave participants a fantastic forum in which to learn and share and it gave us an invaluable opportunity to build our first-hand understanding of the market and business-specific challenges that each of the attendees faced."

The African continent is home to some of the fastest growing economies in the world, and is a key area of focus for the firm; this award therefore recognises the innovation and expansion driven by the African business group. The team continues to respond to client needs by launching initiatives such as the award winning Africa iPad app, which provides guidance on the legal implications and regulations clients may face when doing business in African markets.
