Addleshaw Goddard beat competition from Latham & Watkins and Paul Hastings, among others, to be named City firm of the Year at The Lawyer Awards on 12 July 2022, one of the biggest legal events in Europe with 27 categories covering law firms, in-house, legal operations and the Bar.
The award is for recognition of the firm's significant achievements throughout the past 12/24 months to develop a first class City practice to service clients in financial services, energy and utilities, health and life sciences, retail and consumer, real estate and transport. Nearly 80% of AG's income is generated through these 6 core sectors.
Our winning submission showcased a successful, growing, and client-shaped business that continues to invest heavily in priority sectors, people and global infrastructure as well as the quality and value of work we are doing, resulting in panel gains, new mandates, additional market share, and higher levels of activity. In the past 24 months the firm has been one of the most prolific hirers in the City, with 20+ partner hires.
AG teams advised on 20% of all public M&A deals in 2021, including advising the Rothermere family on their successful £3bn reorganisation and takeover offer for Daily Mail and General Trust plc, the owners of the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, MailOnline and Metro Daily Mail and General Trust plc. In addition, AG was listed as having the fastest growing litigation team in terms of revenue in 2021 (The Lawyer Litigation 50 Report 2022), engaged in high stakes disputes for major corporates, such as advising Unitel in a Commercial Court £300m+ proceedings.
Many of our cross-border mandates are led from the City and the growing internationalisation of the business has been another key feature of recent years with new office openings in Hamburg, Frankfurt and Munich, Paris, Ireland and Luxembourg in the last 24 months.
Alongside client assignments, our teams have supported over 200 ESG projects in the last year and won other independent recognition for our approach to building an inclusive culture, most recently as a Top 50 Employer for Women for the 13th time, and developing 15+ partnerships to support diversity and inclusion programmes.
In addition to City Firm of the Year, Addleshaw Goddard was shortlisted in four other categories at the 2022 Lawyer Awards :
- Corporate Team of the Year
- Funds Team of the Year
- Real Estate Team of the Year
