Addleshaw Goddard advises private equity firm CBPE in acquisition of IP firm HGF Limited

International law firm Addleshaw Goddard advised its client CBPE on its investment into HGF Limited, one of Europe's leading IP services firms.

HGF specialises in the creation and management of IP portfolios for many of the world’s foremost companies and research institutions. Founded almost 30 years ago and headquartered in Leeds, UK, HGF has demonstrated consistent growth year-on-year. The firm has expanded significantly, becoming the second-largest provider of IP services in the UK, with a growing presence across Europe, including the Netherlands, Germany, France, Switzerland and Ireland. Today, HGF supports over 3,000 highly innovative organisations worldwide with their patent, trademark, and IP strategy needs.

CBPE's investment will enable HGF to focus on enhancing its high-quality advisory services, with an emphasis on four key strategic areas: people, processes, technology, and services. These efforts will boost the firm’s value to its global client base and significantly expand its commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives.

The investment builds on CBPE's track record of partnering with people-led professional services businesses, such as BKL, Centralis, and Perspective Financial Group.

Paul Medlicott AG, Partner at Addleshaw Goddard leading the transaction commented:

Addleshaw Goddard's Private Equity team is made up of over 45 partners across our 18 global offices, was ranked no.1 for private equity deals by volume in the UK and Ireland based on latest mergermarket data, and was recently shortlisted for Law Firm of the Year at the Mergermarket British Private Equity Awards 2024.
