Addleshaw Goddard launches new Competition practice in Spain led by Sara Fernández

Addleshaw Goddard has launched a new Competition practice in Spain, extending its European footprint in this area. The practice will be led by Sara Fernández, a lawyer with more than ten years of experience and an extensive track record in all aspects of European Union, Spanish and international competition law, as well as in foreign subsidies (FSR) and foreign direct investment (FDI).

Sara joins Addleshaw Goddard from Garrigues, one of Spain's largest and most respected law firms, and prior to that held positions in McDermott Will & Emery LLP in New York and Pérez-Llorca in Madrid.

Throughout her career she has advised national and international companies in numerous sectors, especially in energy, pharmaceutical and technology.

With a degree in Law from the University of Vigo, Sara holds an LL.M. in International Business Law from IE Law School, and an LL.M. in Competition and Innovation Law from New York University School of Law (NYU). In addition, she has been a member of the Madrid Bar Association since 2013, and of the New York Bar since 2018.

Roberto Pomares, partner and head of Addleshaw Goddard in Spain, highlights, in relation to the new practice area, that "this new team will contribute to strengthening the service we offer to our clients, responding to their needs in increasingly sophisticated operations, both nationally and in Europe". Likewise, regarding the incorporation of Sara Fernández, Roberto points out that "Sara has extensive experience in merger control and antitrust proceedings before national and European authorities. In addition, her work ethic and commitment to clients fit perfectly with Addleshaw Goddard's values."

Rona Bar-Isaac, partner and head of Addleshaw Goddard's Global Competition area, remarks that "Sara's track record stands out for her participation in a large number of transactions in key sectors, such as pharmaceuticals and technology. Her arrival enhances our capacities, both at European level and in Spain, to offer a better and broader service to our clients across Europe."
