James is a partner in the firm's finance disputes team advising banks and other financial institutions, clients in the payment industry as well as clients in the FinTech sector. James also co-leads the firm's digital asset practice and advises digital asset businesses as well as businesses looking to engage with digital assets, crypto currencies and/or the blockchain technology.
James specialises in complex and high value litigation. His expertise includes mis-selling claims (in relation to financial products), claims relating to lending and security, letters of credit and performance guarantees, derivatives and structured products as well as trading disputes and professional negligence claims.
James' expertise also includes acting in disputes arising in the payments industry, in the FinTech and digital asset sector involving a wide range of contentious matters as well as advising in relation to matters involving crypto-currencies and smart contracts. A number of James' cases have a regulatory angle, including matters involving the Financial Conduct Authority and the Financial Ombudsman Service.
In 2015, James spent ten months at a major UK bank seconded as a senior lawyer in the commercial banking litigation team (James' second secondment with the team).
James also has extensive heavyweight commercial and IT litigation experience. James' experience includes acting in the High Court as well as the Appeal Courts.
