Expertise

Tom is a Managing Associate in Addleshaw Goddard's Commercial Disputes team. He acts on a broad range of complex and high value commercial disputes, predominantly in the English High Court, but Tom has also acted on major international arbitrations. Tom regularly offers strategic support to clients to resolve disputes without the need for formal proceedings. Tom has significant experience of a variety of forms of alternative dispute resolution including mediation.

Tom's key areas of expertise and experience are technology related disputes (regularly advising clients on issues arising with their IT and technology estates, IT supply contracts and transformation projects) and business protection litigation (advising employers on how they can enforce rights to protect their business interests through undertakings, urgent injunctive relief, and damages claims).

Experience

Commercial Litigation, Arbitration and Mediation Experience 

Acting for a leading e-cigarette manufacturer in its challenge to the EU's Tobacco Directive (which went to the Court of Justice of the European Union).

Acting for The Co-operative Insurance in a claim against IBM (UK) Limited for substantial wasted expenditure arising out of a failed transformation project which was heard by the Technology and Construction Court in an 8 week trial - the case was listed in The Lawyers' Top 20 cases of 2020.

Advising a major transport infrastructure provider on an IT dispute against a large systems integrator regarding the failed implementation and management of a new, business critical IT platform.

Acting for a cosmetics distributer in an international arbitration concerning distribution rights in the UK (AAA Rules, Los Angeles Seat)

Advising FNZ Group Technologies in its claim against SEI Investments to challenge the enforcement of post-termination non-competition covenants in a prospective employee's service agreement.

Client facing experience

Shortly after qualification, Tom was seconded to Diageo in Bangalore, India to work within its newly acquired subsidiary, United Spirits Limited. Tom worked predominantly on the implementation of the businesses anti-bribery and corruption processes and policies

Tom spent six months of his training contract on secondment to the Co-Operative Group legal team. Tom worked on numerous matters during a period of immense change as the Co-Operative Bank separated from the rest of the Co-Operative Group.
