Charles was Senior Partner of Addleshaw Goddard LLP between 1 May 2016 and 30 April 2023.  He is a Corporate Partner based in the London office and was previously the firm's Head of Corporate Finance. He specialises in mainstream corporate finance and has acted over the years for a number of public and private companies, including US, South African and Japanese corporates, as well as intermediaries, on a wide range of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions (particularly public takeovers), securities issues and joint ventures.

Before joining Addleshaw Goddard in Autumn 2005, Charles worked at Lovells where he started his career in 1982. Whilst there, he spent a two-year secondment as Secretary of the UK Takeover Panel, as well as two periods posted to the US, including being the Resident Managing Partner of Lovells' New York office between 1999 and 2002.

Clients for whom Charles has acted over the years include ClearStar, Inc., Cooper Industries, Exxon Mobil Corporation, Guardian Media Group plc, the Holiday Extras Group, Mars Inc., MyCelx Technologies Corporation, Polar Capital Holdings plc, PZ Cussons plc, Rathbones Group Plc, Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., Resolution Plc, Rothermere Continuation Limited, SABMiller plc and the WSH Group. He also acts regularly for the UK's Takeover Panel.

Charles was a Director of BritishAmerican Business Inc. from 2011 to 2023 and sat on its Executive Committee. He is also an independent trustee of Mail Force Charity CIO.
