Expertise

Shannon is an Associate in the Commercial Disputes team in Edinburgh. She has experience dealing with matters in the Court of Session, Sheriff Court, First Tier Tribunal, and at Arbitration and Mediation. Shannon has been Certified by the Law Society of Scotland in Data Protection. She is an active member of AG's Tech, Data, Intellectual Property, Professional Negligence and Real Estate Disputes practice. 

  • Providing real estate disputes support in relation to contentious property and landlord/tenant matters, as part of a national team dealing with a portfolio sale across jurisdictions, for a high-profile client;
  • Advising clients on various data protection issues including complaints to the ICO and from data subjects;
  • Advising a client on protecting their brand and intellectual property rights where they were infringed by a third party; 
  • Acting for a client in the preparation for and attendance at mediation, which ultimately resulted in a substantial settlement in a damages claim for professional negligence relating to a property transaction shortly prior to trial;
  • Representing a client in relation to a complex Antisocial Behaviour matter involving the social media platform TikTok, advising on issues relating to defamation, data protection and brand protection; 
  • Acting for a tenant in defending a high value dilapidations claim in an arbitration process, securing a dismissal on the basis of time bar; 
  • Acting for an investment fund client in raising an urgent commercial action in the Court of Session following a buyer's failure to complete a purchase. This included successfully obtaining an order for arrestment on the dependence, securing payment of the purchase price;
  • Representing a client in the energy sector on defending a claim for payment of compensation for loss of development potential of land due to a pipeline servitude; 
  • Advising on complex deeds of conditions for property factors as part of debt recovery and disputes relating to maintenance responsibilities and boundaries; and
  • Representing clients frequently in the Sheriff and Heritage Court on various real estate and commercial disputes.

Shannon is the current chair of Scotland's race, ethnicity and social mobility diversity and inclusion network, AG Embrace. She is incredibly passionate and determine to do as much as possible to advance diversity in the legal profession and beyond. She is actively sought out to talk to clients, colleagues, students and prospective employees. She is a member of all the firm's networks, which focus on race and ethnicity, disability, gender and LGBTQ+ inclusion.

Notable activities:- 

  • Throughout Shannon's traineeship she became the first Trainee Inclusion Champion for Scotland. 
  • She organised and hosted the firm's first 'Breaking Down Barriers' event which encourages individuals from broader socio-economic backgrounds to learn about a career in law and AG. This event has been expanded and ran by successors of the role.
  • Represented AG as sponsor to the first IamBlack Conference in Glasgow.
  • Organises regular firm events for South Asian Heritage Month and Black History Month.
  • Supported a panel event with attendees from the Law Society of Scotland and Diversity+
