Sarah is a partner in our contentious construction and engineering team based in Manchester. Sarah trained and qualified with Addleshaw Goddard LLP where she has now practiced as a qualified lawyer for the last 9 years, working in our Manchester, London and Hong Kong offices during this time.
Sarah's practice has a specific Infrastructure Projects focus, particularly PFI/PPP, transport and health. She has acted for numerous domestic and international, public and private sector clients, in respect of historic and ongoing Project disputes in adjudication, arbitration and litigation proceedings. In addition, Sarah regularly advises clients on distressed projects in relation to dispute avoidance working alongside our specialist Infrastructure and Projects Team.
Sarah has strong experience of disputes involving complicated and multi-tier contracts.
- Experience
- Advising a contractor in relation to significant delay claims and associated claims for liquidated damages in respect of the refurbishment of a large food packaging facility. Acted as lead advisor with responsibility for agreeing and coordinating strategy, overseeing the AG team in the delivery of that strategy.
- Acting for a water company in the successful defence of an adjudication brought by a supplier concerning a payment claim under an NEC contract in relation to services provided at various wastewater treatment sites across the UK.
- Acting for a Government entity in the Middle East on a large travel network in relation to claims of quantum and delay with a value in excess of US$1.5bn, under a FIDIC-style contract.
- Advising a client regarding the termination of multiple complex contracts (including supply agreements and licence agreements) due to significant delays and poor workmanship, and in relation to an extension of time application.
- Advising a Japanese contractor on a successful ICC arbitration award against four Tanzanian parties in relation to a dispute concerning delays and alleged defects in the construction of a major new highway in Tanzania and the enforcement of the same in the UK, USA and the UAE.
- Advising Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital Trust in respect of significant delays to the completion of a large acute hospital and the subsequent termination of its 25 year contract following the liquidation of the main contractor.
- Acting for a contractor based in Saudi Arabia in relation to claims for additional payment and delay in relation to a large energy facilities.
- Acting for a PFI special purpose vehicle and its funders contractor in relation to arbitration proceedings in respect of circa £50m disputes regarding delays to a waste PFI project.
- Advising a developer in relation to its claim against a contractor for £34million of defects in student housing accommodation.
- Advising a local council in relation to a significant payment deductions claim associated to widespread fire-defects in various accommodation blocks in England.Acting for a Government entity in the Middle East in relation to significant defects and service failings in a large energy from waste facility.
- Advising an NHS Foundation Trust on potential options for termination and on a multi- party mediation process resulting in a multi-million pound settlement.
- Acting for Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in major disputes in relation to the design and construction of the PFI Royal Victoria Infirmary.
