What is it like to work at AG?

Addleshaw Goddard is a business where talented people with character thrive.

A word we hear a lot at AG is rewarding. It describes the value people get from doing outstanding work alongside colleagues who are committed to their growth and success.

We want each individual at the firm to discover and develop their best selves, and we are always developing new pathways through the business. No two people are the same, and no two careers are either.

Application submission

When submitting your application, it is important to create a compelling CV and/ or covering note tailored to the specific role or team you are applying for. Instead of a generic document, we recommend highlighting your achievements and to gather examples that demonstrate the skills and qualities required for the role. Consider the layout and structure of your CV - is it clear, concise, and easy to follow? We want to get to know you, so feel free to include any key achievements or interests outside of work.

Reasonable adjustments

Our aim is to provide a positive experience, and we offer a range of reasonable adjustments to ensure that you can 'be the best that you can be' and we encourage you to discuss your specific requirements with us. In the application form, there is a section where you can inform us of any adjustments you may need due to a disability or long-term condition. Additionally, please inform us before each stage of the assessment process if you require any adjustments.

Interviewing with us

Congratulations on receiving an interview invitation! We are excited to meet you. Once your interview request is confirmed, a member of our Resourcing Team (or your recruitment agent) will provide you with the names of the Addleshaw Goddard people you will meet. You can find their profiles on our website or LinkedIn. If you are applying for a role within a business services team, our people typically have a LinkedIn profile. You can read more on the specifics of the interview process below.

Interview process

Our interview process usually consists of two or three stages, where you will meet a combination of Partners, managers, and team members.

Interview format

During the interview, we will ask a variety of competency, technical, and skills-based questions.

These questions will cover topics such as;

  • your relevant experience,
  • technical knowledge,
  • understanding of Addleshaw Goddard,
  • commercial awareness,
  • motivations and ambitions,
  • approach to teamwork and independent work,
  • and development goals.

The interview is also an opportunity for you to learn more about us as a prospective employer and ask any questions you may have. Ultimately, it's a chance for you to determine if we are the right fit for you. These questions may be focussed on;

  • our work and clients,
  • team structure,
  • our culture and commitment to employee and partner development,
  • firm success and future plans,
  • benefits and remuneration,
  • our responsible business ethos.

In some cases, there may be an opportunity for you to meet the team on an informal basis. This could involve a relaxed setting with refreshments at one of our offices or an external venue. This meeting allows you to ask further questions and get a sense of what it would be like to work at Addleshaw Goddard, in addition to the formal interview stages. We will coordinate this with you in advance.

Attending the interview

When we confirm your interview, we will provide you with directions to our office.

Typically, the interview location will be where the role is based. However, there may be instances where an onsite interview takes place at a different Addleshaw Goddard office. We will discuss this with you beforehand.

If your interview is conducted over video, we will share a link for you to join the meeting at the agreed date and time. Please ensure your device is set up in advance, but if you need assistance, we are happy to help with test calls.

If you experience any delays or connection issues, please keep in touch with us so we can provide additional support.

Interview feedback and next steps

After your interview, we will strive to keep you informed of our timings. We aim to respond to all candidates within a reasonable time, but occasionally there may be delays. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Inclusion, diversity and equal opportunities

Becoming a more inclusive workforce is important to us, and as a global law firm, we welcome and value the diverse cultures and backgrounds our people bring as these help shape our collaborative approach to solving problems for our clients and colleagues and focus on creating an open environment that works for everybody.

We are constantly working hard to reduce unconscious bias throughout our recruitment process. For some of our roles, we have introduced blind CVs at the application stage as well as deploying consistent assessment steps, so all candidates are assessed in a fair way. Additionally, we routinely provide unconscious bias training for interviewers at each stage of the recruitment and interview process.
